Preparation for a little bit of everything

I started at New Grace Church (AMiA) in Orange Park, FL in January 2008 as the Assistant Pastor. As the assistant in a big church, I get to do a little bit of everything but very little of any one thing. I frequently am reminded of Bilbo Baggins' words in The Lord of the Rings: "I feel thin, like jam that's been spread over too much toast." For the immediate future, I enjoy this because it gives me a wide range of experience as a true curate. Since being ordained as a priest in June, my sacramental responsibilities have increased the most. I preach and celebrate communion at least once a week, sometimes more. I am overseeing an Alpha course, and I have recruited a small youth ministry team while I search for a youth pastor. This is large parish ministry in a vibrant community. I often thank the Lord for this opportunity and for my Trinity education!
