Kneelers Make It to Championship
T. Bryan Jarrell, MDiv 2012
When you think of Fall in Pittsburgh, you think of changing leaves, a crisp autumn breeze, and, of course, football. And it isn’t any different at Trinity. October 30, 2010, the Trinity Kneelers, the seminary flag football team, packed their bags and headed to Gettysburg Lutheran Seminary for the annual Luther Bowl flag football tournament.
And boy, did the Kneelers show up this year!
Team Captain Bo Ubbens, a Senior MDiv student from Florida, held practices twice a week throughout the semester. Students met at a local park to practice blocking, catching, and flag grabbing to prepare for the tournament.
The day of the tournament, the Kneelers dominated in their division, soundly beating last year’s championship team and last year’s runner-up team. In a combined three games, they allowed a total of two touchdowns and no two-point conversions.
Though fighting bravely to the last second, the Kneelers fell to Princeton Theological Seminary 0-6 in the championship game. “I’m so proud of the Kneelers this year,” said Bo after the game, “we gave it everything we had.” The Kneelers won the championship back in 2008, and are looking to win it again in 2011!
